AWLA Lagos Conducts Community Outreach Activities for 2024 International Women’s Day

The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Lagos conducted a community outreach project at Abibat Mogaji Modern Market in Kairo, Oshodi Road, Lagos, as part of the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrations. The community project aimed to inspire inclusion and included discussions, free medical check-ups for 100 women, and a legal clinic for market women.

The International Women’s Day event featured a range of activities, including discussions led by AWLA Nigeria Lagos State Coordinator, Awlan Olasunkanmi Fasule; certified family therapist and performance consultant Mrs. Aameenah Yunus-Ali, and Dr. Feyisara Giwa. The speakers highlighted the positive impact of women’s inclusion in different spheres. They discussed several topics, such as partner support and parenting, which involves building a supportive partnership with a spouse to share responsibilities and strengthen the family unit. Dr. Giwa also talked about the reproductive rights of women.

The President of AWLA Nigeria, Awlan Caroline Ibharuneafe, VP Awlan Felicitas Nwaobi, other members of the National and State executives, and many other dynamic Awlan sisters attended the event.

AWLA Lagos also had a media presence from AIT. They covered the event and conducted several interviews with Nigerian President Awlan Caroline Ibharuneafe, AWLA Nigeria Lagos State Coordinator Awlan Olasunkanmi Fasule, the Chairperson of the IWD planning committee, Awlan Tawa Toriola, and some of the market women present at the event.

The IWD event was a huge success as AWLA Lagos celebrated with and educated the women of the Kairo Market community, showcasing the true spirit of the African Women Lawyers Association.
