The African Women Lawyers Association Nigeria Lagos Branch Commemorated the 2024 16 Days of Activism with the theme : ” Towards Beijin+30: ,Unite to end violence against Women and Girls ”
This notable event was celebrated between the 27th day of November and the 6th day of December 2024 with a road Walk, Legal Clinic, Sensitization Workshop and visit to the Juvenile Correctional Institution.
The Road Walk took place on the 27th of November 2024 in collaboration with members of Child Protection Network of Nigeria led by the Coordinator Mrs Ronke Oyelakin. The walk started from the AWLA secretariat through Ilupeju axis, carrying various placards to campaign against Gender Based Violence (GBV). The day ended with Legal Clinic held at the Ilupeju Market.
On the 5th day of December 2024 AWLA Nig Lagos Branch members also visited the Adebayo Modern Market at Bariga to sensitize the women on their rights and privileges. Women were also implored to respect their husbands and to make the home a peaceful haven for their husbands.
The men were sensitized on the dangers and punishment for abuse on women in whatever form. They were taught the dangers of violating our girls and the repercussions on their own life.
As one of the objectives of the Association, to give back to the society. The event was rounded up on Friday the 6th day of December 2024 with a visit to the Lagos State Juvenile Correctional Institution for Boys situated at Kudirat Abiola Way Oregun Lagos. Items were donated and lectures on the dangers of involving in crime, the consequences and measures that can be taken to prevent crime.
